Mr. G has joined our class. He was goofing with his gooey gum. Ask your child what goofy things Mr. G did with his gooey gum. Fortunately, Mr. G learned his lesson. He learned to chew his gum until the flavor is gone. Then he will wrap it up in the wrapper and throw it in the garbage can. No more goofing with his gooey gum.
We learned that gooey gum goes into the garbage, but not all things should be thrown into the garbage. We learned about reducing, reusing, and recycling items so that the garbage doesn't pile up in the landfill. What do you do at home to reduce the amount of garbage you have? What items in your home are examples of reusing (a Cool Whip tub, a tin can, etc.)? Do you recycle newspaper, plastic, tin and aluminum cans, or glass in your home? If not, perhaps you can work with your child to begin a recycling program. Your child may be able to create something with your assistance using reusable items. If you do and would like to share it with the class, please send it to school with your child.
