m&m Math
The Kindergarten girls and boys were given a fun-size bag of m&m's. They could hardly wait to munch on them, but first they made a prediction as to which color they thought they would have the most of in their bag. After making the prediction on a class graph, they sorted them by color on their own student graph. Then they counted them to see how many of each color they had in their bag. Some students were surprised to see that they did not have any or a few of a particular color while others were amazed at the large numbers of other colors. Some discovered that they had more than one color with the same amount. Overall, we found that there were more BLUE m&m's than any other color when we added up the class total for each color. We had a total of 29 red, 69 orange, 53 yellow, 36 green, 95 blue, and 48 brown m&m's. And finally, after all of their hard work, the girls and boys enjoyed munching on their m&m's.
